I have decided to start a new post series on my page highlighting my favorite photos and memories from my travels. For my first post in my Favorites Series, I will cover Maine, though it will definitely take more than one post to include everything I want to share. I have been there four or five times and there is a reason I keep going back. It is the most beautiful state I have been to thus far, and the rocky coastline, mountains, lakes, weather, and super friendly locals have led me to years of serious consideration about moving there. For now, I do not have plans to become a Maine resident, but I do have plans to keep visiting every chance I get. As a side note, while I find every part of Maine I have seen so far to be quite beautiful, none has topped Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park; my favorite place to stay when I visit Maine.

Bass Harbor Lighthouse. I first saw this one on a boat guided lighthouse tour, but these photos are from my most recent visit to Maine with my brother, Mike. You can drive to this lighthouse in Acadia National Park. From the parking lot, you can walk up a path directly to the lighthouse, and you can also take a beautiful path through the woods to the rocky cliff on the left of the lighthouse and get some amazing shots, depending on how daring you are with navigating the terrain.

Sand Beach, found in Acadia National Park. This photo was taken from Great Head hiking trail which offers spectacular views of the coastline; you just have to work a little bit for the reward. The trail starts from the beach.

At his request, I took this photo of my brother. He was facing his fear of heights by sitting on the edge like that. It is my favorite photo of him for so many reasons. Seeing him in his element makes my heart happy. This was also taken from Great Head Trail just off of Sand Beach in Acadia National Park.

My brother, Mike, and I in front of Stephen King’s house in Bangor. If you are ever in the area, you should drive by and check it out. It’s a hop, skip, and a jump from the Bangor airport. Though he and his wife no longer live there, evidence of his prior presence is all over it. I find it a real treat to see.

Little Hunters beach in Acadia National Park. I have visited this particular spot twice, and I just love it. The shore is layers upon layers of rocks so thick that when you walk on them, it sounds like an echo beneath your feet. Walking on this shoreline is tricky with all of the loose rocks, but it’s worth the effort just to be able to sit and soak in the beauty. The photo on the left is from my most recent visit in August 2024, and the photo on the right is from my first visit in September 2022, where an artist was painting the gorgeous scenery.

Maine is known for its blueberries, so I should not have been surprised when blueberry butter was served with the pre-meal bread. I had never heard of blueberry butter, much less tasted it prior to this welcomed surprise. Let’s just say I have since tried to find some in my home state of Georgia to no avail, and I will include it in every meal possible on all of my future visits to Maine.
